Rangr VHF Low - 6 Meter Operation
                                                     Conversion Considerations

The Rangr VHF Low unit makes an excellent 6 meter FM transceiver.  However, there are two modifications that must be done to the radio itself so that the VCO's will tune up to the end of the band (54 Mhz) and so that the PA stage will not self destruct when running full power.  These modifications are outlined elsewhere on the web and will not be described in detail on this site, except to add a picture that I have taken to further explain the process.

The first modification is to the transmit and receive VCO's.  To do it, you have to remove the VCO from the radio, remove the shield, remove 1/2 turn of the #14 enameled wire from each of the coils and then replace the coils on the board.  This is best done one coil at  a time as they are different.  Here is a picture of the VCO board with the shield removed.

The second modification entails removing the PA board from the radio and carefully 'stretching' the low pass filter coils so that they will not attenuate a signal near the high end for the 6 meter band.

The following links explain the process in detail:

The M/P controls TRANSMITTING and receiving on many frequencies, suitable for a wide range of HF, VHF and UHF needs. In the USA, TRANSMIT operation requires a license issued by the FCC  for the class of operation intended.  Amateur radio licensees must maintain strict control over their equipment, preventing unlicensed operation within or outside of the amateur bands.
